What AI vendors have retired, and where they announced it
234 retirement announcements from 26 AI vendors, quoted as written, each with the page it appeared on and the date that page carries.
A retirement is published, not sent
Every announcement below was read off a page. None arrived as an email to a customer, and that is the reason for collecting them: the way you find out a model is going away is by re-reading a changelog you have no particular reason to open.
145 of the 234 carry a date, and only 6of those dates were still in the future when this page was built. A vendor’s changelog is a record of what has happened more often than a warning about what will.
What this is not
Not a forecast, and not a rate. Publishing how often each vendor retires things was tempting and the numbers will not carry it: most vendors here have one or two dated entries, and the span between them says how much history the changelog shows rather than how the vendor behaves. AssemblyAI’s eighteen announcements over thirty-two months is a real reading. Two entries a day apart is not a cadence.
It is also uneven. Google Cloud accounts for 75 of the 234, most of them Kubernetes version rotations rather than AI product retirements. They are here because the page says them and we do not decide which of a vendor’s announcements count — but each list is capped below so one changelog does not bury the other 25.

What to do with it
Two things. Put the source pages above into whatever you use to watch for changes, because that is where the next one will appear and nothing will tell you it did. And when a vendor names a retirement date, check it against your own notice obligations — a model you resell or embed can carry a customer commitment whose window is shorter than the vendor’s.
Where each vendor publishes its other surfaces covers the sub-processor lists and DPAs, which move on their own schedule.
Take it with you
The same list as a Word document, with every announcement, source and date. It is generated when you download it, so it carries the record as it stands that day.
How these were read
Each announcement is quoted from a page the vendor publishes, with that page’s URL and the date it carries. Nothing is summarized or reworded. Where the same announcement appears on more than one page or in more than one reading, it is listed once — a vendor said a thing once however many times we read it.
An announcement without a date is shown without one rather than given the date we read it. Those are different facts and only one of them is the vendor’s. How the record is kept.
Common questions
- How do I find out when an AI vendor deprecates a model?
- By re-reading the page the vendor announces on. Every announcement collected here was published to a changelog or docs page; none of them arrived as an email. The source URL beside each vendor below is the page to watch.
- Do AI vendors give notice before retiring a model?
- They publish a notice. Whether it reaches you is a separate question, and it usually depends on a clause in your agreement rather than on the changelog. Of the dated announcements here, only a handful were still in the future when this page was built.
- What is the difference between a deprecation and a retirement?
- Vendors use both, and not consistently. Deprecated commonly means still working but no longer recommended or supported; retired, sunset and end-of-life usually mean gone. The wording quoted here is each vendor's own, so read the sentence rather than the label.
- How often do AI vendors retire models?
- We cannot tell you honestly from this data, and we would rather say so than publish a rate. Most vendors here have one or two dated entries, and the span between them reflects how much history the changelog shows rather than how the vendor behaves.
- Why does Google Cloud have so many entries?
- Its release notes rotate Kubernetes versions continuously, and each rotation reads as a deprecation. They are included because the page says them; each vendor's list is capped on this page so one changelog does not bury the rest.
