Do AI providers train on your data? OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and Microsoft in their own words

By default, abuse monitoring logs are generated for all API feature usage and retained for up to 30 days, unless longer retention is required by law, or is reasonably necessary to protect our services or any third party from harm.

Eligible customers may have their customer content excluded from these abuse monitoring logs, subject to the limitations below, by getting approved for the Zero Data Retention or Modified Abuse Monitoring controls.

Conversation content (your prompts and Claude's outputs) is not retained by default; the exception is Covered Models, which require 30-day retention.

Under a ZDR arrangement, Anthropic does not store customer prompts or responses at rest after the API response is returned.

By default, Google's published Gemini models cache Customer Data (inputs, outputs, and derived data) in-memory to reduce latency and accelerate responses. This data is stored only in-memory (not at-rest), is isolated at the project level, and has a 24-hour TTL.

Prompt logging for abuse monitoring for Google models: As outlined in Section 4.3 "Generative AI Safety and Abuse" of Google Cloud Platform Terms of Service, Google may log prompts to detect potential abuse and violations of its Acceptable Use Policy and Prohibited Use Policy as part of providing generative AI services to customers.

The abuse monitoring data store where prompts and completions are stored for human review is logically separated by customer resource (each request includes the resource ID of the customer's Foundry resource).
